Awaroa worksBackground:
While teaching at Nelson College for Boys I wanted to create some small intimate works that connected the viewer with a place on a more personal level. It was after spending time in the Awaroa lodge area of Able Tasman National park that I decided to use that area as the subject matter for a series of works. While at teachers college I had acquired some old fibre based photographic paper and I decided to use this to create the works and get back into the darkroom. The images were taken out of focus to give them a feeling of a holiday memory. Putting fold lines and creases imply a treasured memory that has been carried and kept on ones person. The coffee stain gives an element of neglect as if the image has been taken for granted. The frames where from the Warehouse; a frame that anyone could put a holiday snap in. A series of 6 of these works were exhibited at Awaroa Lodge in February of 2006. |
